Client Details
A unique opportunity has arisen for a Senior Legal Counsel – with a minimum of 8 years’ PAE in the financial services space to join the in-house team of a leading Insurer. Working closely with the General Counsel you will be part of an experienced and established national legal team. You will be involved in Providing legal and governance advice to your business partners across legal issues arising from insurance operations including product, underwriting, claims complaints and regulatory requirements
Your responsibilities will include:
- Stakeholder management including providing strategic and complex advice to internal stakeholders across the business.
- Monitoring legislative/regulatory changes and provision of advice to the business to proactively identify issues which may impact strategy, operational issues, or business processes.
- Develop and deliver training programs for key stakeholders to enhance their understanding of legal constraint and opportunities.
- Providing regular reports and insights to senior management on legal matters affecting insurance operational requirements
- Providing development and mentoring of junior lawyers
Profile
The successful candidate will have:
- Ideally a minimum of 8 years PQE gained within a top-tier law firm or leading financial services organisation
- Previous insurance law experience including knowledge of general insurance products; insurance litigation; claims; property, liability and/or statutory classes of insurance; underwriting and product development; claims and coverage issues; complaints; licensing requirements; dealing with regulators such as ASIC, APRA and AFCA; general commercial contracts; and advisory
- Familiarity with the Corporations Act (particularly Chapter 7) and the Insurance Contracts Act
- Commercially minded with strong project management skills
- Excellent negotiation & communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with both internal & external stakeholders.
