Role Description
The Head of Strategic Sourcing will be responsible for leading the strategic sourcing function the organisation. This senior leadership role is pivotal in driving procurement strategies, optimising the supply chain, and ensuring the sustainable, cost-effective, and timely acquisition of raw materials, goods, capital equipment and services essential to the company’s operations. The position involves managing supplier relationships, implementing best-in-class sustainable and strategic sourcing practices, and aligning procurement strategies with overall business objectives to deliver continuous value, mitigate risk, and enhance competitiveness in the marketplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic sourcing strategies that align with the business objectives and encourage optimisation of inventory levels
- Lead and manage the procurement team, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development to build a high-performing, results-driven organisation.
- Identify and evaluate suppliers, negotiating contracts, terms, and conditions, ensuring the best value for cost, quality, and sustainability.
- Collaborate with key internal stakeholders, including operations, finance, logistics, and production teams, to forecast demand, plan for future sourcing needs, and implement effective sourcing solutions.
- Partner with site-based capital engineering teams on the delivery of major capital projects, ensuring procurement of capital goods and sub-contractor services aligns with project budgets and delivery timelines.
- Monitor and analyse market trends, commodity prices, and supply chain risks to proactively mitigate disruptions and capitalise on opportunities in the sourcing landscape.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements related to procurement and supply chain activities, including environmental and sustainability standards, and in doing so place the company in an industry-leading position in relation to its ESG ambitions and obligations.
- Implement and drive continuous improvement initiatives related to sourcing processes, cost reduction, supply chain efficiency, and quality management.
- Ensure risk management practices are integrated into sourcing decisions, including mitigation strategies for supply chain disruptions, cost fluctuations, and regulatory changes.
- Prepare regular reporting and analysis on sourcing performance, cost savings, and supplier performance metrics for senior leadership, and propose strategic adjustments as needed.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and communication between the sourcing team and other departments to ensure seamless execution of procurement and supply chain goals.
Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPSM, CPSD) is a plus.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role in the agriculture, FMCG, manufacturing, or industrial sectors.
- Proven experience developing and executing global sourcing strategies in complex supply chains, with a deep understanding of the agriculture/FMCG and manufacturing industries.
- Strong negotiation skills with experience in managing multi-million-dollar contracts and supplier relationships.
- In-depth knowledge of supply chain management, logistics, procurement systems, and sourcing tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions and drive continuous improvements in sourcing and procurement.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams, influence stakeholders, and communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation.
- Strong understanding of sustainability, risk management, and compliance considerations in sourcing, with experience in managing environmental and ethical sourcing practices.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
